Thrilling matches at the 14th Carrom Euro Cup in Rome, Italy.

The 14th Carrom Euro cup held from 11th to 13th June in Rome ended on
Sunday by the Prize Distribution Ceremony, in which ECC president Arif Naqvi
announced that the 15th Euro Cup has been alloted by the ECC to France.
About one hundred Carrom players from France, Germany, Holland, Italy,
Poland, Slovania, Switzerland and United Kingdom participated in this year's
Euro Cup, which was held in three disciplines: Singles, Doubles and Team Event.
The team from Czech Republic could not attend at the last minute due to
the death of the father of an important member
of the team.
the 14th Euro Cup was opened on Thursday evening by Arif Naqvi,
President of European Carrom Confederation and ICF,
who appreciated that the Carrom Euro Cup has been held every year
without any interval and has contributed to its popularity and rise of the
standard. He said that the 14th Euro Cup should be taken as a rehersal for the
3rd World Cup which would be taking place from 27th September to 1st October in
Richmond, Virginia USA. Naqvi appreciated the dedicated hard work done by Elisa
Martinelli and other members of the Italian Carrom Federation to make the event
successful.
The teams Championship conducted on first day, 11th June, was won by the
UK with an edge of only one point against Germany. Switzerland came on third
place.
The points are as following:

6. Poland 0 points
Simultaneously the doubles Campionship was conducted on the same day
which was won by Italy's Weerasinghe Sriyantha and Cristiani Gianluca agians
Collard Steve and Pierre Dubois of France, with 25 to 24 . Both sides gave a
excellent performance. At one point the score in the final game was 24 to 24.
Leu Jonathan and Pierre Fabian of France came on third place.
The Singles Event , which was conducted on 12th and 13th June,
was won by Karnal Abedin of UK for the third consecutive time. After the
11 round of matches the final was held between Karnal Abedin of UK and Pierre
Dubois of France. While Karnal was leading clearly after 11 rounds with 20
points in hand Pierre Dubois of France, Peter Boecker of Germany and
Abdul Malik of UK followed him with 18 points each, while Pierre had edge with
Bucholz points.
The final between Karnal Abedin and Pierre Dubois was extremely exiting.
While Karnal won the first game clearly, Pierre gave him a very good fight in
the second game, winning the game clearly. The third game was however dominated
by Karnal Abeding and he won the match and the trophy for the third consecutive
time. Peter Boecker of Germany came on the third place.
The meeting of the General Council of the European Carrom Confederation
was also held during the Euro Cup in Rome. It was attended by the
representatives of France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Slovania (as guest),
Switzerland and United Kingdom. The 15th Euro Cup was alotted to France and is
to be held near Paris.
Poland's Paulina Nowakowska and UK's Nazrul Islam were included in the
ECC General Council as two new Vice Presidents.
The 14th Euro Cup was concluded with prize distribution ceremny and a
closing speech of the ECC President Arif Naqvi
at a restaurant rear the sea side of Rome. Naqvi asked the players to
forward to 3rd. World Cup (2010) in USA, while Elisa Martinelly thanked on
behalf of the italian federation to all players and sponsors for the
coperation.

Karnal Abdin of UK is agian European Carrom Champion. During the 13th Carrom
Euro Cup 2009 at Lenk, Switzerland, Karnal Abdin successfully defended his
European Title, by winning all 12 matches plus a Final Match of best of three.
Jonathan Leau and Fabian Pereira (both France) came on second and third places.
A total number of 84 players participated in Singles Event, which was conducted
with Swiss System of 8 boards or 25 points (whichever is first) based on 2
winning points plus Bucholz points and Coins difference.
The doubles event was won by Fabian Pereira and his 12 year old partner Radjou
Venou of France, who surprised by winning the final beating Murshad Khan and
Ala Miah of UK, who came on second place. Steffen Eder and Jan Geister of
Germany came on third place.
The UK Team also defended the Teams Championship title beating all other
countries. France came on second place, while Germany on third place. Germany,
Italy and Switzerland had 18 points each, but the coins difference was in
favour of Germany. Poland (which participated with full team for the first
time) came on 6th place behind Switzerland. Poland scored 6 points.
Best woman player was Elisa Martinelli of Italy.
Arif Naqvi and Roger Meyer were the Chief Referees, while the final matches
were conducted by Claudio Motta and Stefano Fabiano of Italy.
Earlier on 10th July the 13th Carrom Euro Cup, under the auspices of the
European Carrom Confederation, was inaugurated by ECC president Arif Naqvi (who
is also ICF president) at Lenk in Simmenthal, Switzerland, surrounded by
beautiful mountains. Naqvi appreciated the excellent arrangements made by the
Swiss Carrom Association and also praised the rising standard of Carrom in
Europe and welcomed some new countries willing to join ECC. Speaking on behalf
of the host country Roger Meyer welcomed the participants and thanked the ECC
and other federations for their support.
Also in the prize distribution ceremony on 12th evening, ECC president Arif
Naqvi praised the arrangements and claimed that the 13th Euro Cup was a great
success and the excellent performances of the players in 13th Euro Cup will
also reflect in the Carrom World Cup in 2010 in USA.
Roger Meyer of Switzerland thanked all participants and sponsors for their
support.
During the meeting of the Board of Management of the European Carrom
Confederation, during the Euro Cup, it was decided to send Greetings to the
participants of the SAARC Countries Championship in Mumbai and Asian Carrom
Championsip in Pune in August this year. It is hoped that the Asian players who
have always been inspiring the players all over the world will have excellent
performances during these championship and continue raising the prestigue of
Carrom.
The 14th Carrom Euro Cup in 2010 was allotted to Italy and the 15th Euro Cup in
2011 to France. The Polsih Carrom Association which officially joined the ECC
offered to host a Eurocup tournament in Poland in coming years.

12th EUROPEAN CARROM CUP
SUTTON UK
The 12th Carrom Euro Cup was held under the Authority of the European Carrom
Confederation from 1st to 3rd. August 2008 at Sutton, Uk. It was hosted by the
UK Carrom Federation. The tournament was a fantastic display of the growing
standard of the game of Carrom in Europe. While UKCF President Mr. Vijay Sharma
welcomed the guests, the Opening Ceremony of the 12th Euro Cup was addressed by
the President of the European Carrom Federation Mr. Arif Naqvi (who is also
President of the International Carrom Federation)who announced that the next
Euro Cup will be held in Switzerland in 2009 and informed that Carrom
organisation have been formed in Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden als. Mr. SK
Sharma, Secretary General of the International Carrom Federation, who attended
as guest conveyed greetings from ICF and a former Mayor of Sutton Councillor
Mrs. Meckenzy wlcomed the players in Sutton.
The first days matches on 1st August were concentrated in three disciplines:
Team Event, Doubles Event and Women Singles Event. While UK team dominated from
the very begining, the German and French had to fight hard for the second
position in Team Event,having equal points. However the difference of the coins
favoured the French Team.
In Doubles Event the French pair Fabian Pareira and Jonathan Leau was the most
successful.
In the Women's single, held for the first time , there was an excellent
performance of a sixteen year old UK player Ruhen Begum, who beat all senior
players .
On the second day the singles event was held which went on for ten rounds of
Swiss System on 2nd and 3rd August and saw the top favourite Karnal Abdin of UK
who was unbeaten, while the other UK, German, French and Italian players
struggled hard to reach Final. People were delighted to see an exiting and high
standard final match between Sonahar Ali and Karnal Abdin (both UK). While
Sonahar Ali dominated in the first match beating Karnal Abdin clearly, Karnal
won the 2nd match without any trouble. The deciding game of the final was draw
after 8 boards (16:16). Finally the fate was decided with an extra board, which
Karnal Abdin snatched with great difficulties.
During the whole tournament three white slams (break to finish) were scored by
different players.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held on 3rd.August evening, in which Mr.
Arif Naqvi, hoped that the European players will give very impressive
performances at the International Carrom Federation Cup in Colombo, Sri Lanka,
in October this year, which will be held as part of the Golden Jubilee of the
carrom Federation of Sri Lanka and 20th Anniversary of the foundation of
International Carrom Federation. Elisa Martinelli, Secretary General of the
European Carrom Confederation, Mr. Paul Scally a Councillor of Sutton and UKCF
President Mr. Vijay Sharma also spoke at the closing ceremony. The tournament
was conducted in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere and all players, coming
from different parts of Europe, appreciated it.

II WORLD CUP NEW DELHI

The All India Carrom Federation, as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations,
organised Rajiv Gandhi 2nd World Cup Carrom Tournament from 17th to 21st
November, 2006 at Tivoli Garden Resorts Hotel, Chattarpur Mandir Road, New
Delhi. The World Cup is organized under the authority granted by the
International Carrom Federation. The Federation has decided to dedicate the
prestigious international event to the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv
Gandhi.
16 countries took part U.S.A., UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Korea,
Malaysia, Switzerland, Netherlands, UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives
and India. Sadly Pakistan at the last minute was unable to make it.
SWiss System Singles open event results:
Yogesh Pardeshi defeated compatriot M. Nataraj 17-13 to clinch the title . P.
Nirmala also of India won the best Women player medal with 5th position
overall.
The placings: 1. Yogesh Pardeshi, 2. M. Nataraj, 3. Ravinder Gaud, 4. Ali
Nathar (UAE), 5. P. Nirmala, 6. Kubendra Babu, 7. Chamail Coora (Sri) and 8.
Humayun Kabir (Ban).
Results Open Doubles : M Natraj and D Kubendra Babu beat their Indian
compatriots Yogesh Pardeshi and Ravinder Goud in a well contested finals 25-16,
25-22.
Sri Lanka got the bronze when WDN Fernando and Chamil Cooray beat H Rahaman and
KGH Kabir of Bangladesh 25-2, 25-4.
Open Doubles Female: The women doubles final was a marathon affair lasting
nearly three hours. I Ilavazhaki and Ayesha Mohammad were in the lead through
the first game at 15-6 at one stage and at 23-15 at another stage. But Nirmala
and Rashmi made it 23 all and went to a notional lead of 24-23 in the next
board. But the break advantage was for Ila and Ayesha who took the first game
at 25-24. In the second game Nirmala and Rashmi had a stranglehold throughout
winning at 25-11 with relative ease before going on to take third easily to
emerge champions.
Singles Results: Yogesh Pardeshi (India) defeated compatriot Ravinder Gaud
(India) in two straight games, 25-15 and 25-16, to clinch the title. The top
four: 1. Yogesh Pardeshi (India) 2. Ravinder Gaud (India) 3. Kubendra Babu
(India) 4. M. Nataraj (India). The women's finals saw I. Ilavazhaki (India)
beat Ayesha Mohammad (India) to lift the women's title. Rashmi Kumari in 3rd
place and P. Nirmala 4th.
Of all the European players the best result was obtained by Pierre Dubois who
ranked 24/76 in the Swiss system Singles. Of the Italian players Claudio Motta
had best poition 45/76.
During the ICF Congress and BOM meetings the following international events
were assigned: International Open 2007 to be held in november in Malaysia, IV
World Championships in February 2008 in France and III World cup 2010 in USA.

This year, France has this honour to organise the 10th Eurocup. Here are main
elements set up at this time.
Organising team, helped by our partner Carrom Art and all voluntaries are
proposing you the following program, under the auspices of the European Carrom
Confederation:
- from monday June 26 to thursday 29: coaching given by Arun Deshpande, the
famous international champion that everybody knows
- thursday 29 and friday 30th of June: international umpire examination. Exact
dates and times for writing, oral and practice will be given by ECC
- friday 30: opening ceremony, followed by double and team events
- saturday July 1rst and sunday 2: single event (11 rounds)
- sunday evening: prize distribution and closing ceremony, followed by the gala
dinner and, depending on budget, magician show, fireworks and orchestra
- monday 3: end of Eurocup after having cleared everything before 11.30 am for
school group arriving at 12 am
- housing reserved until monday morning, but if some players (/families) want
to stay longer we'll have to be informed for booking
- several activities will be proposed during the week before competition. See
"other features" in the "tourism" section
A detailed program will be available on our web site before June 15, and a
booklet will be given to each participant at arrival, including rules,
organisation, housing, etc.
. Maximum number of participants will be:
- 120 for double and single tournament. Number of French players can not be
over half of total competitors
- 20 for Arun's coaching
- 10 for umpire examination
Booking
Booking list is opened since today 6 March, until May 22
The number of competitors for each country is given in the following table and
has been based on number of players in Eurocup 2005. This table needs to be
validated by ECC to be official.
By the end of May, this list will be adjusted depending on waiting lists for
each country after regular contacts with European Federations and ECC. Priority
to adjustment will be given to countries that are given now less than 15
participants.

After that day, non validated (payed) registrations will open waiting list. For

Warning
Breakfasts, lunches and gala dinner cannot be retrieved from payment
Due to sensitive smoke detectors in all buildings, smoking is strictly
forbidden inside any building. Respect of site and cleanness will be greatly
appreciated (papers, plastic, cigarettes, bottles …)
Geographical site :
• Dominating the river and the Gorges du Tarn, the Pierre Monestier center is
ideal for our competition:
- unique site for all activities: this small typical stone houses village is
wonderful. All buildings for Eurocup are close to each other among the village,
only one small touristic road passes close to it. No cars are needed during the
whole stay.
- no noise, a large room with a great view over the river will be a magic place
for the competition
- the restaurant is downstairs the main building with real meals made by
professionals
- an easy access by road (motorway exit not far from village), plane or train
- lots of facilities on site: washing and drying machines, pay phone …
• lots of leasure equipment:
- large swimming pool by th main house with a wonderful view over the gorges du
Tarn
- foot-ball ground, tennis, badminton, pétanque, kids place …
